Welcome to Contractors Institute!
This course provides new exam preparation students with the basic knowledge and resources to begin studying for their exam(s).Ideally, we suggest that you study for ONE TEST at a time. This will help you focus more closely on what you need to know. To begin your studies, we recommend:
- Make sure your books are TABBED and print the highlight sheets in the course for the exam you are studying for. Follow those highlight sheets to HIGHLIGHT the information in the particular book. IF THERE ARE NO HIGHLIGHT SHEETS FOR A BOOK, then highlight based on the information presented in the practice questions (ie. when you find the solution to a question, highlight the main topic, title of the section or table to find it quickly if you have a question on the exam about that subject).
- Work ONE BOOK at a time.... answer all the practice questions for one book at a time, so you thoroughly will understand that book, what kinds of questions come from that book, and how to best look them up in that book.... then move on to the next book.
- Look up KEYWORDS using the table of contents and/or index of the book to find the answer, then click "check" to check your answer. We give you the correct page and/or section number so if you got the answer wrong, you can go to the correct answer and figure out how to get that answer.
- When you are done looking up all the practice questions for all the references on your exam, TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAM (this is a TIMED EXAM with the same number of questions as the real exam). This practice exam should be taken at least once before you go take the exam, although you may take it an unlimited number of times. You should achieve a high 90's score in our practice exam to feel assured of doing well on the real exam. NOTE: This is a TIMING TOOL so it is not meant to take over and over, but to gauge whether you can get all the answers complete in the given time, and score to gauge your readiness for passing the real exam.\
- TAKE AND PASS THE EXAM! You need to REGISTER SEPARATELY to take the exams: construction candidates may apply at www.floridaexam.com; and electrical candidates may apply at www.myfloridalicense.com. This process takes 20 days to register (the testing center will be able to see that the state has your application to take the exam)... THEN call Pearson-Vue to make an appointment to take the exam.
